Premier welcomes armed groups’ decision for peaceful resolution and calls for others to follow

Addis Ababa, December 8, 2024 (FMC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed welcomed the recent peace agreement between one of the OLA leaders and the Oromia regional government and called on others to follow in their footsteps.

He made this statement at the 19th Nations, Nationalities and Peoples’ Day which was celebrated in Arba Minch city of South Ethiopia region with various programs. The event was held under the theme “National Consensus for Multinational Unity.”

On the occasion, Abiy recalled the recent peace agreement between one of the former OLA leaders and the Oromia regional government, and called on other militant groups throughout the country to follow suit and come to peaceful path.

The Premier entrusted all citizens to stand in unity with fellow Ethiopians, prioritize peace, advocate for multinationalism, and leave a lasting legacy that ensures Ethiopia becomes a great and prosperous country in the world.

He emphasized the need to turn the narration to peace and love through synergy and unity within diversity, stressing the need to shun hate and conflict and embrace peace and love.

Moreover, he likened Ethiopia to a vast ocean, rich in resources, values, cultures, and knowledge, and called for unity among Ethiopians to harness these diverse assets for national development and peace.

The Prime Minister also drew parallels between the strength of a single tree and the power of unity among trees in a forest, highlighting that just as trees in a forest support each other against dangers, so too can people with diverse languages, cultures, and views find strength in unity.

Furthermore, Abiy emphasized the significance of prioritizing the culture of hard work to realize the country’s prosperity, and commended Arba Minch city as a standout exemple for the rest of Ethiopia

The premier claimed that Ethiopia’s prosperity is inevitable.

Ethiopia Day, also known as Nations and Nationalities Day, is an annual occasion dedicated to promoting national unity in Ethiopia by upholding the principles of equality and solidarity while preserving the national integrity of the country.
