Premier stresses importance of inclusive urban infrastructure
Addis Ababa, May 19, 2024 (FBC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed emphasized the need to ensure that cities infrastructure is designed to accommodate the needs of individuals with disabilities.
The Prime Minister made this statement after the inauguration of the Sheika Fatima Bint Mubarak School for the Blind in Addis Ababa.
“Learning from the success of this school for the blind, we need to make sure that the city infrastructure we build needs to pay attention to the needs of those with disabilities,” the Prime Minister stated.
The Sheika Fatima Bint Mubarak School for the Blind was built through the Office of the First Lady of Ethiopia, Zinash Tayachew.
Commenting on the inauguration of the school, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed expressed his gratitude to Her Highness Sheika Fatima Bint Mubarak for the support extended to this noble cause.
“I take this opportunity to extend my gratitude to Her Highness Sheika Fatima Bint Mubarak for the support extended to this noble cause,” the Prime Minister added.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, First Lady Zinash Tayachew, Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Truneh, mayor of Addis Ababa, ministers, other senior officials, individuals with visual disabilities, and invited guests.
The Prime Minister’s remarks highlight the importance of ensuring that the city’s infrastructure is designed to accommodate the needs of individuals with disabilities, drawing inspiration from the success of this school for the blind.
