Premier emphasizes Ethiopia’s potential to host AFCON 2029

Addis Ababa, October 21, 2024 (FBC) – Ethiopia has the potential to host the 2029 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said this evening.

The Prime Minister hosted a dinner for CAF, FIFA Presidents and CAF Executive Committee senior leaders at the Grand Palace.

Dinner program was hosted this evening at national palace in honor of CAF General Assembly leadership and attendees, including FIFA president Gianni Infantino, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, CAF president Patrice Motsepe, AU Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat, former African football stars, UN/AU as well as senior government officials.

On the occasion, the Prime Minister officially lodged Ethiopia’s bid to host the 2029 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

For his part, CAF President Patrice Motsepe, thanked the Ethiopian prime minister for the warm welcome accorded to the guests. He admitted that the culture, value and hospitality of Ethiopians made them feel that Ethiopia is their second home.

Mr. Motsepe indicated that CAF will consult with the committee on Ethiopia’s request to host the 2029 Africa Cup of Nations.

Meanwhile, FIFA President Gianni Infantino claimed that Ethiopia, the birthplace of the human race, is home to the roots of everyone.

During the program, Prime Minister Abiy presented his country’s national football team jersey to Gianni Infantino and Patrice Motsepe.

At the same time, FIFA President Gianni Infantino presented a football with his signature “2029” to Prime Minister Abiy.
