Premier Abiy Ahmed receives IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva

Addis Ababa, February 8, 2025 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) today received the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) who arrived is in Addis Ababa for a two-day official working visit.

After welcoming the IMF chief, PM Abiy noted in a social media post that his government values IMF’s continued technical and financial support for Ethiopia’s economic reform program

He also appreciated the IMF Managing Director’s personal involvement and contributions to to Ethiopia.

“Ethiopia’s macroeconomic reform program, which is supported by one of the IMF’s largest financing programs, is based on a Home-Grown Vision and Reform Agenda that clearly articulates our growth and development aspirations,” Abiy asserted.

The Ethiopian Premier added, “As such, we have strong ownership of the reforms and have been able to undertake bold, comprehensive, and historic measures to address long-standing macro challenges.”

The results of the program so far are positive and very encouraging, PM Abiy pointed out.

“Our on-going implementation will bring macro stability, unleash growth, improve living standards, and help establish Ethiopia as an African Beacon of prosperity,” he added.
