PP’s President Abiy Ahmed reaffirms party’s commitment for a peaceful and prosperous Ethiopia
Addis Ababa, January 31, 2025 (FMC) – President of Prosperity Party, Abiy Ahmed (PhD) addressed participants at the opening of Party’s Second Congress taking place in Addis Ababa, reflecting on Ethiopia’s party politics history, the party’s innovative strategies, and the critical need for hard works and collaboration to advance national aspirations.
In his remarks, Abiy noted that the Prosperity Party has emerged as a leader in political and economic reform, emphasizing the importance of innovation and engagement in solving Ethiopia’s long-standing issues. He stated that simply denouncing what is undesirable is not a solution; rather, transformation through innovation is key to progress.
“The Prosperity Party is the first in Ethiopia to invent homegrown innovative mechanisms, such as economic reforms based on Medemer, or Synergy, which we believe can address the nation’s persistent problems,” said Abiy. He expressed openness to alternative homegrown ideas from opposition parties, highlighting that thoughtless politics could only yield temporary victories.
The congress aims to evaluate the party’s progress and develop new strategies for leadership and governance, with a commitment to ensuring that the decision-making process remains democratic and inclusive. Abiy stressed that the success of the party hinges on knowing Ethiopia: understanding diverse cultures, languages and resources, calling on members and citizens to broaden their knowledge of the nation beyond their localities.
He outlined five key principles to guide the party’s efforts toward a prosperous Ethiopia: Knowing, Excelling Improvement, Innovation, Speed, and Integration. Abiy cited the transformation of Addis Ababa as a prime example of what is achieved through commitment and effective strategy of the Prosperity Party.
Reflecting on the previous chapter of the party’s journey, the President declared an end to the era of conflicts and a beginning of renewed hope, echoing the party’s commitment to peace and stability. He mentioned nation’s achievements through the leadership of the Prosperity Party, including the completion of Ethiopia’s Grand Renaissance Dam (GERD), wheat import substitution and ongoing homegrown economic reforms.
As the Congress progresses, Abiy reiterated that the Prosperity Party stands as a major political force in Africa, with 15 million members, and remains dedicated to its vision of peace and prosperity for all Ethiopians.
Abiy Ahmed reaffirmed Prosperity Party’s unwavering commitment for a peaceful, developed and prosperous Ethiopia.
