Police to take measures against violators of COVID-19 directives
Addis Ababa, March 27, 2020 (FBC) – The Federal Police Commission said it will take as of today appropriate legal measures against individuals who do not comply with the directives issued by the government to curb the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).
Endeshaw Tassew, Federal Police Commissioner General, said the directives to maintain social distancing, avoid shaking hands and large gatherings are not being practiced properly.
Accordingly, police will take measures against violators of the directives. It will also take actions against night clubs that are still in operation. The government last week ordered nightclubs and bars to cease operation temporarily.
The Commissioner General further stated measures have been taken against close to 5,000 businesses for increasing consumer goods prices in connection with the outbreak of the virus.
He added police is finalizing the gathering of information to take actions against bloggers who disseminate false information regarding the virus.
Ethiopia today confirmed four more cases of coronavirus, bringing the total number to 16.
