Police reveals roads to remain closed for vehicles for Sunday’s Great Ethiopian Run

Addis Ababa, November 18, 2023 (FBC) – The Addis Ababa police today announced list of highways and roads in Addis Ababa that will remain closed to vehicles for Sunday’s Great Ethiopian Run.

The Great Ethiopian Run 10-kilometer race will start and end at Meskel Square, Addis Ababa. On the occasion, tens of thousands of Addis Ababa residents, local and foreign professional runners, diplomatic community based in Addis Ababa, and other invited guests are expected to participate in the annual athletics event in the capital.

In that regard, the following highways and roads leading to Meskel Square will remain closed from start to finish of the event, Addis Ababa Police confirmed.

Thus, the Megenagna-Meskel Square highway will be closed at 22 Mazoria Zerihun Building, the Bole MadhaneAlem-Urael road at Atlas Mebrat, the Wolo Sefer-Meskel Square road at Olympia roundabout, and the Gotera-Meskel Square Highway for heavy trucks at Agona Cinema and for other vehicles at Tilahun area.

Meanwhile, the Gofa Mazoria-New Road-Legehar road at Kirkos Church Crossroads, the Bulgaria-Mexico road for heavy trucks at Bulgaria Roundabout and for other vehicles at Paradise Hotel Landmark, the African Union-Chamber of Commerce around the Twisted Tower, the Sarbet-Mexico road at African Union Tiyit Bet, the Tor Hayloch-Mexico highway around Lideta High Court, and the Noor Building-Balcha Hospital Intersection route will be closed around Noor Building, the statement from Addis Ababa Police indicated.

Meanwhile, the Tesfa Kokeb School to Lidata Condominium route will be closed at Tesfa Kokeb School, the Feresegna-Geja Sefer road at Feresegna traffic light, the Mola Maru-Geja Sefer at Mola Maru area, the Berbere Berenda-Amstegna Police Station route at Berbere Berenda area, the Goma Kuteba-Areki Factory-Senga Tera-National Theater route at Goma Kuteba, the Meteorology-Post Office road around Meteorology area, the Black Lion Hospital-Shell-Iimmigration road will be closed at Black Lion Hospital Shell area.

Furthermore, the Golla Michael to Immigration road at Goma Kuteba intersection, the Churchill Street-Legehar highway will be closed at Tewodros Square and at Immigration traffic light area, whereas, the Commercial Printing-Orma Garage-Fil Wuha road at Commercial Printing (Orma Garage), the Arat Kilo to Ministry of Foreign Affairs road at Parliament traffic light and at the Old Abbatoir Intersection, the Awarie Women’s Square-Kazanchis Total road will be closed at Women’s Square.

Police further indicated that the aforementioned routes and highways will be closed starting from 5 am (11:00 local time in the dawn).

Addis Ababa Police stressed that parking vehicles in those roads is not allowed untill the end of the event.
