PM extends greetings on Eid al-Adha
Addis Ababa, July 30, 2020 (FBC) –Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed has extended his greetings to Muslims who are celebrating the 1441st Eid-al-Adha holiday and other Ethiopians across the nation.
“This year’s holiday has a special meaning for us as it comes at a time when the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) first year filling is achieved,” he said.
Every Ethiopian is proud of the diplomatic efforts and sacrifices paid by Muslims at home and abroad to realize the dam, in addition to raising funds and suggesting valuable ideas, he said.
On behalf of the Government and all Ethiopians, the Prime Minister extended his gratitude to them for their contributions.
The Prime Minister also said precautions are needed while celebrating this year’s holiday because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic that does not allow us to gather and have physical contact.
“As we all know, the number of infections and deaths from COVID-19 pandemic is increasing from time to time and this should be a concern for all of us,” he added.
Halting the spread of the virus should be taken as a religious obligation, he said, adding all people should contribute their share to fill the gaps created by the pandemic.
The Prime Minister called on all to show acts of kindness and commit to helping the have-nots and others during this difficult time.
He further said a lot is expected from all Ethiopians towards contributing to the construction of the dam and putting their marks on the Green Legacy initiative by planting trees.
The Prime Minister finally wished all Muslims happy Eid-al-Adha holiday.
