PM Abiy’s Port Sudan visit a significant step in a bid to find resolution for situation in Sudan – FM Taye
Addis Ababa, July 10, 2024 (FBC) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, Ambassador Taye Atske-Sellasie, stated that the visit of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to Port Sudan is a crucial step towards resolving the conflict in Sudan.
Note that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed embarked on a one-day working visit to Port Sudan on Tuesday, July 9, 2024.
Following his arrival in Port Sudan, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed expressed his commitment to addressing the challenges faced by the Sudanese people and promoting their peace and prosperity.
“Since the challenges faced by the people of Sudan are also our challenges, and their peace is our peace, we are committed to working towards the relief and prosperity of the Sudanese people,” the premier stated on his social media page.
Upon arrival, the Premier met and held a discussion with Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council of Sudan, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.
Following their discussion, PM Abiy and Abdel Fattah al-Burhan planted tree seedlings in Port Sudan.
The Office of the Prime Minister further emphasized that PM Abiy’s visit to Port Sudan is part of his ongoing efforts to find sustainable solutions for Sudan’s stability.
During his parliamentary address last week, Prime Minister Abiy emphasized that Ethiopia is actively encouraging Sudan’s conflicting parties to resolve their issues independently, noting that this approach is considered appropriate and acceptable. “Ethiopia is dedicated to continuing its efforts to assist Sudan in solving its problems independently and peacefully. The peace-loving people of Sudan deserve peace.”
In this context, FM Taye underscored the importance of Prime Minister Abiy’s visit to Port Sudan on Tuesday, describing it as a significant milestone in the resolution of the conflict in Sudan.
