PM Abiy receives Outstanding African Leadership Award for his leadership on green legacy initiative

Addis Ababa, December 13, 2022 (FBC) – In a special event under the theme “Africa: The Urgency of a Global Mobilisation” organised by the American Academy of Achievement and the Global Hope Coalition in Washington DC, the FDRE Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed, was awarded the ‘Outstanding African Leadership Award’ in recognition of the Green Legacy Initiative.

It is to be recalled that Ethiopia launched the Green Legacy Initiative in 2019 with an ambition of planting 20billion seedlings in a span of four years.

Having exceeded the set goal and fulfilling the four year challenge with 25 billion seedlings planted throughout the country, Ethiopia has been recognised globally for its reforestation efforts and contribution to addressing climate change, the Office of the Prime Minister of Ethiopia indicated.

It is known that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and his delegation is in Washington, DC, to attend the U.S.-Africa Leaders’ Summit, scheduled from December 13 to 15, 2022.
