PM Abiy hosts the IGAD Quartet Heads of State & Gov’t meeting
Addis Ababa, July 10, 2023 (FBC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) hosted the IGAD Quartet Heads of State and Government meeting this morning in Addis Ababa, the Office of the Prime Minister confirmed.
According to the PM Office, the IGAD Quartet Heads of State and Government are convening in Addis Ababa to discuss peaceful solution for the conflict in Sudan.
Recall that IGAD, during its 14th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government on June 12, 2023, adopted the IGAD Roadmap for the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of Sudan involving participation of the IGAD High-Level Delegation for the Peace Process in the Republic of Sudan; the Quartet countries of Ethiopia, Djibouti, South Sudan and Kenya. President of the Republic of Kenya, William Ruto has been assigned to chair the Quartet Countries. The Quartet is said to work in close coordination with the African Union Commission.
Last night, heads of state and government of various countries and representatives of international organizations participating in the meeting have arrived in Addis Ababa.
Furthermore, reports indicate that a number of Sudanese politicians and civil society representatives have arrived in the Ethiopian capital to push for peaceful end to the ongoing conflict which has killed thousands, destroyed infrastructure, and displaced millions.
Alongside the meeting, the heads of state and government and other participants of the meeting have planted seedlings.
