PM Abiy announces groundbreaking schemes in tourism, ICT sectors
Addis Ababa, March 23, 2021 (FBC) – Addressing the Parliament, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has announced groundbreaking plans in tourism and Information Technology Communication (ICT) sectors.
While explaining the activities being undertaken by the government to enhance the tourism sector, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said Ethiopian has immense potentials in the sector reaffirming government’s commitment to exert further efforts in the area.
He said activities are underway to turn Bezawit Palace in Bahir Dar to Five Star Hotel. The Premier also said that preparations have been finalized to construct 380 meters bay-bridge that will connect Bezawit Palace with offshore of Lake Tana.
According to the Premier, design works have been completed to connect the City of Gondar with Lake Tana as part of efforts in the tourism sector.
“Ethiopia did not have a space presence before and within two years we have launched two satellites in orbit. We are building our technological capabilities for development.” the Premier said.
Ethiopia has been working in the field of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, adding that the country has taken tremendous actions against natural and manmade disasters using locally assembled drones.
Ethiopia has applied drones in law enforcement operation and the fight against desert locust swarms in several parts of the country.
Ethiopia has embarked cloud seeding technology, he said adding, that trials are conducted to produce rains in some parts of the country.
Cancer Care Robots are being locally produced to support the health care system in the country the premier added.
