PM Abiy Ahmed visits Bilal al-Habashi Museum
Addis Ababa, May 13, 2021 (FBC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has today visited Bilal al-Habashi Museum that holds invaluable heritages that depict of Islamic history in Ethiopia.
The Museum demonstrates heritages that promote the history of Islam in Ethiopia and Muslims in the country.
According to the curators, the Museum shelters a number of ancient manuscripts and other Islamic writings including the Holy Quran.
One of the founders of the Bilal al-Habashi Development Association, Mohammed Kassa said the presence of the Prime Minister in the Museum at the time when Ethiopian Muslims are celebrating Eid al-Fitr has historic importance in promoting purpose of the heritage site.
“Bilal had rebelled against his condition, and torture by his slave owner who wanted him to not convert to Islam,” Ibrahim noted, adding: “Against all odds, Bilal managed to be the first Ethiopian, African to embrace Islam and to be accepted by Islam” one of the curators said.
“The story of Bilal is a living demonstration of Islam’s strong belief in equality of mankind that made it to stand against exclusion and all forms of racism,” he added.
