PM Abiy Ahmed pledges strengthened greenery, beautification drive nationwide

Addis Ababa, July 8, 2024 (FBC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has introduced amassive greenery and beautification initiatives such as expansion of ecofriendly parks and the corridor development activities in Addis Ababa and major cities of the country.

The ‘Dine for Nation’ mega project that has been implemented in potential attraction sites including Gorgora, Wonchi and Koysha has contributed to strengthening the countrywide environmental protection endeavors besides revitalizing the tourism sector and.

The Dine for Nation project builds on the success of “Dine for Sheger”, the Prime Minister’s inaugural endeavor, which transformed Addis Ababa into a world-class tourist destination by establishing the stunning Unity, Entoto and Friendship parks, making it a top tourist attraction.

In continuation to the Green Legacy Initiative and ‘Dine for Nation’ projects, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) has also introduced the ongoing corridor development which is being carried out in Addis Ababa and major cities and towns of the country as part of the national endeavors to green, clean and livable environment.

Accordingly the regeneration works spanning the Piassa-Arat Killo, Mexico-Sar Bet and Arat Kilo – Kebena – Kenya Embassy corridors have completed successfully positioning Addis Ababa in its proper place globally.

In a video message released in connection with the completion of the Arat Kilo – Kebena – Kenya Embassy corridor today, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, described the newly accomplished scheme as the continuation of the previous ones that has been carried out in the Piassa-Arat Killo and Mexico-Sar Bet sites.

The corridor development sites, apart from upgrading the capacity of the highways, incorporate vital facilities including parking lots, walkways and children play grounds, according to the Premier.

The Premier extended gratitude to individuals participated in the initiative, the Addis Ababa City Administration and the private sector for their contribution in realizing the successful completion of the corridor development.

The Premier called on the community to build a habit of protecting and nurturing the greenery facilities, stressing the need to sustain and maintain what has already been accomplished across the corridor development sites.

He said the corridor development works are expanding nationwide citing the works underway in Arba Minch city as an exemplary endeavor.

Appreciating the ongoing activities, the Prime Minister underscored, “Out capacity is growing stronger. We will continue beautifying our cities. We are in a position to accomplish what we have promised.”

“Parking areas have been created to address the city’s parking shortage, and walkways have been expanded to encourage pedestrian use. It is crucial to focus on cultivating this culture, and everyone should be guardians of what has been created,” the Premier has underscored so far.

The construction of the modern public restrooms across the capital will be continued from next week as part of the efforts to create a green, clean and livable city, the Prime Minister pointed out.
