PM Abiy Ahmed meets with UK’s Minister for Africa
Addis Ababa, October 11, 2024 (FBC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) today met and held a discussion with the United Kingdom’s Minister for Africa, Lord Collins of Highbury.
Following his discussion with Lord Collins, Prime Minister Abiy noted on his social media page that their centered on on bilateral and regional matters of mutual concern.
Note that the UK’s Minister for Africa is in Ethiopia for working visit and announced at total package of support for Ethiopia worth £22.9 million on October 10 to promote peace and boost exports in the textile and garments sector.
Of the total package of support, the £16 million UK funding was announced for Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) of ex-combatants in Tigray region which will be implemented by Ethiopia’s National Rehabilitation Commission (NRC) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The Minister announced the remaining £6.9 million of UK funding for the Ethiopian textiles and garments sector to support economic recovery in Tigray and across the country.
