PM Abiy Ahmed meets with President of China Xi Jinping
Addis Ababa, September 4, 2024 (FBC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed meets with the President of the People’s Republic of China in Beijing on Wednesday.
The Ethiopian Prime Minister traveled to Beijing for official working visit and to participate in the 9th Forum on the China Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit in the Chinese capital.
The Prime Minister thanked President Xi Jinping, for the warm welcome and their valuable discussions today.
Ethiopia greatly appreciates China’s continued and multifaceted support, Prime Minister Abiy stated.
“Despite facing various challenges, we are making significant strides in agriculture, manufacturing, industry, tourism, telecommunications, and other sectors,” the premier said in a post published on his social media page.
He mentioned that Chinese investments have played a key role in this progress, and there is substantial potential for growth in areas like tourism and the paper and pulp industry.
“We are deeply committed to further strengthening our partnership,” PM Abiy stressed.
It is stated that this is their third meeting since August 2023. In that context, the two leaders noted that the frequency of their meetings reflects a deepening partnership based on mutual benefit and respect. They reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation, particularly in investment, green growth, digitalization, and new energy.
Following the bilateral meeting, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed laid a wreath at the Monument to the People’s Heroes, according to the Office of the Prime Minister.
