PM Abiy Ahmed holds discussion with political and security leaders of Tigray Region
Addis Ababa, December 5, 2024 (FMC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) convened a discussion with political and security leaders from the Tigray Region to address vital issues concerning security and political governance.
During the meeting, senior officials from the Federal Government and Tigray leadership focused on collaborative strategies to tackle the region’s challenges. They agreed on the need to work together towards shared goals, emphasizing the importance of fostering an environment conducive to security, good governance, and development for the region’s residents.
A key outcome of the talks was a mutual understanding regarding the safe return of displaced citizens to their homes and the reintegration of former combatants into civilian life.
Additionally, participants highlighted the need to establish legal frameworks for the utilization of natural resources to ensure the protection of both local interests and national assets. They acknowledged the necessity for ongoing efforts to enhance government services and better address the needs of people.
Finally, direction was put in place to ensure that the Tigray Interim Administration can fulfill its responsibilities until the regional elections are held.
