PM Abiy Ahmed holds bilateral meetings with presidents of Zimbabwe, Nigeria on the margins of AU Summit
Addis Ababa, February 5, 2022 (FBC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has held bilateral meetings with presidents of Zimbabwe and Nigeria today on the margins of the 35th AU Summit.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa on better echoe voices of Africa at the international platform. President Emmerson Mnangagwa appreciated the way Ethiopia has overcome its own problems withstanding external pressures. He also praised the efforts Ethiopia has been exerting in the agriculture sector in a way to ensure food security and self-sufficiency.
Prime Minister Abiy, for his part, stressed the need to expedite the agricultural development works at continental level to better address challenges of the continent.
The Premier and the Nigerian President discussed ways of transforming the relationship between Ethiopia and Nigeria to a higher level in several areas of cooperation, According to the Government Communications Service Minister, Legesse Tulu (Phd).
The two also stressed the need to realize an African media that would help echoe voices of the continent well. President Buhari has lauded agricultural advancements in Ethiopia. Prime Minister Abiy also appreciated Muhammadu Buhari’s efforts to fight against corruption and other malpractices.
The Prime Minister also discussed with Presidents of Djibouti, Somalia, Sierra Leone and Zambia on the margins of the 35th AU Summit yesterday.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh of Djibouti discussed ways of enhancing the longstanding and close ties between the two countries.
Puting the increasing export trade volume of Ethiopia into consideration, the two leaders explored mechanisms to enhance the partnership in the logistics and related areas to this end.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed appreciated the role of the government and people of Djibouti in ensuring peace and security in the region. President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, for his part, said that Ethiopia is his home, reiterating commitment to enhance ties between the two countries in multifaceted areas.
The Prime Minister also met with the President of Somalia on ways of enhancing the relationship between the two countries.
Prime Minister Abiy and President Hakainde Hichilema explored ways to forge strong partnership between Ethiopia and Zambia in social and economic sectors. President Hakainde Hichilema said Zambia wants to share best experiences from Ethiopia in the agriculture sector.
During the discussion the Prime Minister held with Zambian President Julius Maada Bio, the leader expressed interest of his country to benchmark best practices of Ethiopia in the winter wheat irrigation development area and other sectors.
