PM Abiy Ahmed expresses sorrow over landslide impact in Ethiopia
Addis Ababa, August 27, 2024 (FBC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has expressed his sadness over the devastating effects of recent landslides that occurred in various regions of Ethiopia.
In a statement published on his social media pages, the Prime Minister extended his heartfelt condolences to those affected by these tragic events.
The Prime Minister attributed these natural disasters to a lack of attention and care towards the environment that has persisted for centuries. He emphasized that the Green Legacy tree-planting initiative is one of the primary solutions to mitigate and prevent such hazards from occurring in the future.
Prime Minister Abiy confirmed that relevant authorities have been instructed to provide appropriate support to the victims affected by the landslides. He also entrusted society to support the affected parties as much as possible.
Through his words, the Prime Minister underscored the importance of environmental stewardship and the need for sustainable solutions to address the challenges posed by natural phenomena like landslides.
Recent landslides in South Ethiopia, Southwest Ethiopia, Sidama, Amhara, and other regional states have resulted in the loss of hundreds of lives and the displacement of thousands of villagers from their homes.
