PM Abiy Ahmed emphasizes teachers’ vital role in fostering a people-centric ethos

Addis Ababa, July 29, 2024 (FBC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) underscored the pivotal role teachers play in shaping individuals who prioritize the needs of the nation and its citizens.
In a virtual address to inaugurate a special winter capacity-building training program for teachers and school leaders, the Prime Minister urged educators to embrace their responsibilities in building a resilient Ethiopia.
He described teachers as the frontline soldiers in their respective domains, emphasizing their crucial contribution to developing a populace that places national and public interests at the forefront.
Education Minister Prof. Birhanu Nega announced that 60,000 teachers and school leaders will participate in the training across 28 universities, ensuring a robust implementation with focused attention and oversight.
He highlighted that the program aims to enhance the ongoing quality improvement efforts in the country’s education system.
Additionally, the minister indicated that teachers who achieve over 70 percent in the post-training assessment, along with their overall performance, will be eligible for certification and promotion opportunities.
