PM Abiy Ahmed calls upon Ethiopians to join hands in planting trees
Addis Ababa, June 21, 2022 (FBC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed called upon Ethiopians to join hands in planting trees as of Tuesday in accordance with the 4th Green Legacy Initiative which has been officially launched.
The Green Legacy Initiative that is being implemented over the last four years shows Ethiopia’s commitment not only to initiate but finalize mega projects.
The Prime Minister launched a ‘One Person, One Hundred Trees in Two Months” tree planting campaign at Gulele Botanic Garden in the capital in the presence of high level government officials, members of the diplomatic community and representatives of regional and international organizations.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Demeke Mekonnen, Former President of Ethiopia Mulatu Teshome, Agriculture Minister Oumer Hussien, Chairperson of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat among others dignitaries have attended the tree planting session.
Ethiopia has finalized preparations to plant 6 billion trees in this rainy season. In a recent statement, Prime Minister Abiy said Ethiopia will accomplish its four year plan set to 20 billion trees till 2022.
The Prime Minister said last week at a parliament that Ethiopia has already planted 18 billion trees with participation of 20 million citizens during the last three years.
