PM Abiy Ahmed attending 36th regular session of House of Peoples’ Representatives
Addis Ababa, July 4, 2024 (FBC) – The House of Peoples’ Representatives of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia is currently holding its 36th regular session, with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) in attendance. During the session, the Prime Minister is expected to respond to questions from parliamentarians regarding various issues, including social, economic, and political developments in the country.
The session also aims to focus on the implementation of last year’s fiscal year’s activities and plans for the upcoming Ethiopian budget year. Additionally, the House is expected to approve the budget for the next fiscal year.
In his response to queries raised regarding economic issues, stressed the need to ensure sustainable financing, calling the business community to reduce tax evasion and change the mindset that individual evasion doesn’t impact national growth.
The Premier noted that efforts are underway to modernize the tax system, and promised improved performance in the upcoming year.
“A sustainable source of financing for the gov’t development initiatives includes tax collection. Currently, only 64,000 individuals & companies contribute to tax collection, while 120 million people have various needs. Taxing only 64,000 people cannot sustain our growing needs,” he added.
