Peace Minister holds talks with Special Envoy of UN-Secretary General
Addis Ababa, February 5, 2021 (FBC) – Minitry of Peace Muferihat Kamil has held talks with Special Envoy of United Nations Secretary General António Guterres, Parfait Onanga-Anyanga.
The Minister briefed him on the ongoing efforts in the process of the reform to enhance cohesion and national consensus to enrich nation’s values that have existed for centuries.
The special envoy, to his part, appreciated the endeavors being undertaken by the government to ensure sustainable peace and keep momentum of positive changes in several areas of engagement.
She also explained to the special envoy about the youths engagement in the national voluntary service program and the ongoing consultative dialogues that are involving participation of scholars and representatives of various segment of the community.
The two also discussed post-law-enforcement activities underway in Tigray region including rehabilitation and rebuilding endeavors.
The Special Envoy lauded the Ethiopian government’s efforts for lasting peace and security, and has assured the Minister that the UN family is ready to support Ethiopia with political and technical needs it may have.
“The valuable support of our friends in all directions ensures that we are on the right track of reform which gives us more hope and strength to enhance the positive peace and change that we are dreaming of and striving for in our country.”, she noted.
The Minister further extended gratitude on behalf of the government to the United Nations for its continued support for Ethiopia and its people.
