Peace Minister calls on the int’l community to balance humanitarian, dev’t aid

Addis Ababa, June 16, 2023 (FBC) – The first IGAD-EAC (Intergovernmental Authority on Development-East African Community) High-Level Ministerial Conference on durable solutions for refugees in the Horn and East Africa convened in Kampala, Uganda from 13 to 16 June 2023.

A high-level Ethiopian delegation led by Binalf Andualem, Minister of Peace, accompanied by Ethiopian Ambassador to Uganda, Etsegenet Bezabih, took part in the conference.

It is noted that the entourage includes delegates from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defencse, as well as Refugees and Returnees Service of Ethiopia.

During the conference, both the experts and the High-Level Ministers of the respective member countries of IGAD and EAC presented their individual countries’ experiences on durable solutions for refugees.

Minister Binalf highlighted Ethiopian Government’s various policies and programs aimed at providing durable solutions for refugees and addressed the questions raised by the participants of the conference.

He stressed the need for the international community to balance humanitarian and development aid through the spirit of “burden and responsibility sharing.”
