Past week sees curiosity of the western world towards facts on the ground in Ethiopia: MoFA
Addis Ababa, March 30, 2021 (FBC) – In a weekly press briefing held this morning, Spokesperson of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dina Mufti said the past week saw increased curiosity of the Western world towards facts on the ground Ethiopia.
Ambassador Dina briefed media on issues related to the ongoing political diplomacy, situation in Tigray, trilateral negation on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), economic and citizen based diplomatic activities.
On the occasion, the Spokesperson said the Western World is showing interest to critically comprehend facts on the ground in Ethiopia. He noted that during the past week the western community has manifested interest to critically understand what is really happening in Ethiopia particularly the situation in Tigray.
He said Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen met with a delegation led by the U.S. envoy to the Sudan and South Sudan, Donald Buz and explained Ethiopia’s water share on the Nile and significe of GERD in lifting 60pct of Ethiopians from eclectic power shortage induced darkness.
According to the Spokesperson, the Deputy Premier assured the US delegation that the GERD will not cause any significant harm to downstream courtiers.
Regarding the situation in Tigray, Ambassador Dina said Ethiopia has agreed with UN Human Rights to conduct joint investigation into alleged atrocities claimed to be committed in the region.
