House approves resolution seeking constitutional interpretation
Addis Ababa, May 5, 2020 (FBC) –The House of People’s Representatives (parliament) in its 3rd special meeting today approved a resolution seeking constitutional interpretation.
Constitutional interpretation was one of the four options put forward during a meeting held last week for the conduct of the 6th general election.
The election was initially scheduled to take place on August 29, 2020 but postponed following the outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The other three options were dissolution of the parliament, declaring state of emergency and constitutional amendment.
But in its today’s session, the parliament approved a resolution seeking interpretation on articles 54/1, 58/3 and 93 of the constitution.
It approved the resolution with majority vote and 25 objections.
The parliament also ratified loan agreements signed with Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development (KFED), Korea Eximbank (KEXIM), and Italian Government.
