Panel discuses revised excise tax law
Addis Ababa, December 31, 2019 (FBC) –A panel discussion on the new revised excise tax law of Ethiopia started this morning in Addis Ababa at the Skylight hotel.
In her opening remark, Adanech Abebe, Minister of Revenues said the panel was organized to gather additional information and create clarity on the new law.
She said the government has been undertaking comprehensive reform programs to improve and modernize the tax collection system.
And the reforms have yielded promising results in terms of improving tax system, encouraging taxpayers, enhancing tax compliance and availing cost-effective tax services, Adanech noted.
The Minister stated that the revised law would help improve the socio-economic benefit of the community by increasing the amount of tax revenues.
It would also increase Ethiopia’s competitiveness in international export markets by expanding the tax base and eliminating double taxation, she added.
Representatives of the business community, media houses and stakeholders are in attendance at the panel.
