Over 3 million students benefiting from school feeding program in Oromia Region

Addis Ababa, December 30, 2024 (FMC) – Over 3 million students are currently benefiting from the school feeding program (SFP) in Oromia Regional State, the regional education bureau said.

Mr. Hassen Endris, Director of Planning and Budget Preparation at the Bureau, told Fana Media Corporation that school meals is one of the initiatives taken to improve the quality of education in the region.

Besides to improving education quality, the initiative plays a significant role in reducing the dropout rate of students, the Director said.

According to Mr. Hassen, the regional bureau is aiming to provide the service to over 9 million preschoolers and elementary school students during the entire fiscal year. Accordingly, over 3 million students are benefiting from the program with financial contributions from the community, partners and the government.

He pointed out that the government has given special attention to the initiative and for this he mentioned that a steering committee consisting of 11 sectors is undertaking its activities.

The Director also called on partners to support the schools feeding program, especially in areas affected by drought and other challenges.
