Over 1.5 Billion Birr needed to rebuild Ataye town and environs: Committee

Addis Ababa, May 24, 2021 (FBC) – The Technical Committee in charge of investigations into causalities caused by communal violence in Ataye town and Oromo Community Zone of Amhara region a month before stated that more than 1.5 Billion Birr is needed to rebuild the area.

The committee disclosed that out of the total amount of money needed for the renovation 400 Million Birr is intended to emergency responses.

Chairperson of the Technical Committee, Birhanu Zewdie said 281 people died while 197 others injured due to the violence and are receiving treatments at hospitals.

According to the report from the committee, 3,073 houses have been fully destroyed of which 1,529 were located in Ataye town, North Shewa Zone of Amhara regional state.

Discussions are underway in line with commencing rebuilding activities in Efrata and Gidm Woreda and Oromo Community Administration Zone, Amahra Regional State.
