Officials welcome members of second-generation diaspora heeding call for homecoming
Addis Ababa, January 5, 2024 (FBC) – High government officials are receiving members of the second-generation Ethiopian diaspora who are coming come heeding the call made by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) at Bole International Airport.
The Tourism Minister, Nasise Chali along with other senior government officials has welcomed the second-generation diaspora who arrived home.
The first round of the homecoming program is scheduled from 30 December to 29 January 2023 under the theme “connect to your culture”. People of Ethiopian origin to come home as per this program are said to attend “Genna” and “Timket” festivals in Ethiopia.
The second round homecoming program will be held under the theme “connect to your history” at the time when the African Union Summit will take place in Addis Ababa.
The third round of homecoming will take place from the time the Ethiopian rainy season begins to 30 September 2024, and the second generation diaspora who come to the homeland during this schedule will participate in the national annual tree planting session, according to the Prime Minister.
Special discounts are arranged by the Ethiopian Airlines and the hotels in all parts of the country for the second diaspora community who come home as per the schedule announced, the Prime Minister added.
