134 countries established embassies in Addis Ababa – MoFA

Addis Ababa, March 16, 2024 (FBC) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia (MoFA) announced that the number of countries which have established embassies in Addis Ababa now reached 134.

This story emerged subsequent to 17 recently appointed ambassadors presenting their letters of credential to the FDRE President Sahle-Work Zewde within the past few days.

The latest countries to open their respective embassy in Addis Ababa include Kenya, Cape Verde and Armenia, the Ministry said.

While presenting their letters of credential, the newly appointed ambassadors pledged to diligently enhance their relations with Ethiopia across various domains including culture, people-to-people interactions, trade, investment, tourism, and politics.

In response, President Sahle-Work has reassured the ambassadors of the unwavering support of the Ethiopian government to ensure the successful fulfillment of their duties in Ethiopia.

Speaking to the media, Ambassador Birtukan Ayano, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, highlighted that some 134 countries have established embassies in Addis Ababa to date.

Stating that the number of countries opening and interested in opening their embassies in the capital is increasing, the State Minister said that this trend underscores Addis Ababa’s enduring status as a diplomatic nucleus.

She said that by increasing the international competitiveness of the city and efficiently fulfilling the responsibilities expected of Ethiopia as a country, work will be done to ensure that the country becomes global diplomatic epicenter.
