NEBE stated on December 22, 2020 that it had officially requested a number of existing political parties to fulfill requirements set by the new electoral law of the country.
Only four parties are said to have completed the requirements as per what is demanded by the board, it is stated.
Accordingly, Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF), Afar People Party (APP), Gamo Democratic Party (GDP) and Afar Liberation Front Party (ALFP) have fulfilled the requirements, NEBE indicated while All Oromo People Democratic Party (AOPDP) and Sidama National Democratic Party (SNDP) have encountered the revocation for failing to complete the condition.
It is stated that AOPDP met only 35pc of requirements in founding members’ signature sample verification, and failed to submit confirmation of residential ID cards of 1,142 founding members while SNDP didn’t submit verification of its 778 founding members.
