NEBE cancels licenses of 27 political parties
Addis Ababa, May 15, 2020 (FBC) –The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) said that it has revoked the licenses of 27 political parties.
The decision came following the parties’ failure to respond until March 12, 2020 to a letter sent by the NEBE, requesting them to meet the requirements stated in the new electoral law.
Out of the total 106 political parties that had received the letter, only 76 parties have submitted documents that are still subject to further scrutiny, according to a statement NEBE issued today.
The remaining 27 political parties, however, failed to submit the required documents and the board canceled their previous licenses, the statement added.
