NDRMC affirms government’s commitment to strengthen humanitarian aid to Tigray Region
Addis Ababa, March 26, 2022 (FBC) – Commissioner of the National Disaster Risk Management Commission of Ethiopia, Mitiku Kassa, in a press briefing, affirmed government’s commitment to strengthen humanitarian aid to people in need in Tigray region.
He noted that since January 2022, humanitarian flights are being undertaken to Tigray region delivering medical supplies, medicines and nutritious food to people in need in the region following disruptions inflicted by the terrorist TPLF Group on the relief operation on land transport.
According to the commissioner, the favorable conditions facilitated by the government have played an important role to this end.
The government is working hard to facilitate enabling environment although the TPLF is causing havocs that blocked the humanitarian operation that was being carried out by humanitarian cargos.
Mitiku disclosed that thousands of people from the Tigray region are flocking moving to neighboring regions fleeing atrocities by TPLF, adding that efforts are being carried out to identify the number of people in need of humanitarian assistance and respond to the situation accordingly.
Mitiku further called upon the terrorist TPLF to stop belligerence and withdraw from areas it still occupies.
