NDC confirms completion of agenda gathering process in Oromia region

Addis Ababa, December 24, 2024 (FMC) – Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission (ENDC) has Confirmed that the consultation and agenda setting process in Oromia region has successfully completed.

Chief Commissioner of ENDC, Professor Mesfin Araya emphasized that the ongoing consultation and agenda-setting process in the Oromia region has been successful.

He highlighted the active participation of representatives from the armed group who have been recently pursuing the path of peace and signed agreement with the regional government, as a significant milestone in the process.

The consultation and agenda setting initiative, launched on December 15, 2024, culminated in the successful submission of a compiled agenda, it was indicated.

Professor Mesfin also praised the inclusive and democratic nature of the process, stating that it allowed for diverse voices to be heard.

More than 7,000 public representatives, organized into 640 consultation groups, actively contributed their ideas and priorities for the highly anticipated upcoming nationwide reconciliation process.

The participants included political party representatives, influencers, thought leaders, and members of various associations and institutions.

According to Mesfin, the discussions were free, democratic, and participatory.

He further noted that the election of representatives for the national consultation was conducted transparently, ensuring the inclusion of all community groups.

Particularly, the chief commissioner described the involvement of former armed group members’ representatives as a great achievement.

“Their engagement symbolized a significant step forward in fostering peace and unity within the region,” he elaborated.

Prof. Mesfin concluded by emphasizing the importance of the selected representatives from various communities, as per ENA.

He also urged them to diligently carry out the responsibilities entrusted to them as they prepare to participate in the upcoming national consultation.
