National Water hyacinth removal campaign kicks off
Addis Ababa, October 19, 2020 (FBC) – Ethiopia has today launched the month long national campaign aimed to remove hyacinth from aquatic resources of the country.
Deputy President of Amhara National Regional State, Dr. Fanta Mandefro and Minister of the Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Energy, Dr. Seleshi Bekele have resided over the launch of the national campaing which took place at Lake Tana and the surroundings.
Federal regional public institutions, universities, city administrations and nongovernmental organizations are expected to actively participate in the fight against the water hyacinth infestations.
On the occasion, the Water, Irrigation and Energy Minister, Dr. Seleshi Bekele called up on all Ethiopians and stakeholders to contribute their share in the national campaign declared remove the water hyacinth infestation.
The campaign will run until November, 2020 as of today.
