National Dialogue Commission holds discussion with stakeholders

Addis Ababa, November 4, 2022 (FBC) – The National Dialogue Commission of Ethiopia is holding a discussion with stakeholders on the process and system of gathering the draft and agenda of the participants in Dessie and Gondar cities.

The discussion is scheduled to advise on the concept of national dialogue, the commission’s establishment declaration, and its activities.

It is expected that a common position will be taken on the draft identification of the participants of the dialogue and the nature of the agenda gathering system.

Dialogue requires collective participation, confronting challenges, and ownership, according to the National Dialogue Commission Commissioner, Ambaye Ogato.

During the national dialoue, it is necessary to listen deeply, ask for answers, self-examine, stop identity-based labeling, and avoid speculative hypotheses, he said.

The commissioner recalled that there are different political, social, economic and historical perspectives in Ethiopia.

National dialogue means understanding these differences in terms of the unity and benefit of the country which contribute to realize the vision to build a great country, Ambaye added.

Dialogue also allows for the resolution of existing conflicts while speeding up development, the commissioner indicated.

The discussion is being attended by South Wolo Zone leadership, Dessie and Kombolcha cities heads and South Wollo zone and woredas leaders.

Meanwhile, the Commision is also holding discussion with various stakeholders in Gondar city.

The Deputy Commissioner of the National Dialogue Commission, Ms. Hirut Gebre-Sellasie, stated that the Commission has advised with the stakeholders by conducting a series of discussions in different regions during the preparatory process.

Today, the Commission is consulting with zone and woredas senior leaders, mayors and various civic associations in Gondar city.

According to the Commission, the dialogue is scheduled to be held for two days.
