National consultative meeting deliberating on ways of fighting hate speech, fake news

Addis Ababa, June 29, 2022 (FBC) – A National consultative meeting aimed at exploring ways to fight hate speech and fake news is underway in Addis Ababa in the presence of high level government officials, religious leaders and public representatives.

Media professionals, social and political activists and students of various education instituions are also in attendance of the conference.

Addressing the participants, Minister of the Government Communications Service, Legesse Tulu (PhD) stressed need to exert concerted efforts to tackle spread of hate speech and fake news which is being exacerbated by the emergence of the social media technologies.

Papers that are focused on the complicated threats posed by rampantly spreading hate speech and fake news on the social media have been tabled by researches for further discussions.
