Namibian MPs acclaim Ethiopia’s “exemplar” achievements in agriculture sector
Addis Ababa, December 12, 2024 (FMC) – Namibian delegation consisting of parliamentarians commended Ethiopia’s exemplar agricultural initiatives and achievements recorded in the past few years, according to the Ministry of Agriculture of Ethiopia (MoA).
The Namibian parliamentarians shared their thoughts on Ethiopia’s success in agriculture during their discussion with Minister of State for Agriculture Mr. Fikru Regasa on how they can learn from the East African nation’s agricultural achievements.
On the occasion, State Minister Fikru reminded that Ethiopia is endowed with vast land for agriculture, livestock resources, and abundant water resources, as well as a conducive climate for agricultural development.
Highlighting recent agricultural initiatives spearheaded by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Mr. Fikru asserted that his country has achieved standout results through rainfed and irrigated rice and wheat production, as well as the Green Legacy Program.
The head of the Namibian parliamentary delegation, Vincent Marka, said on his part that despite having sufficient land and water, Namibia imports 80 percent of its food products due to underutilization of its natural resources.
He said that the achievements being recorded in the agricultural sector in Ethiopia are a source of much learning.
Vincent Marka also indicated that the Namibian Minister of Agriculture will visit Ethiopia next year to exchange experiences and see the achievements recorded in the agricultural sector.
