Multipurpose trees species planted on 1.8 hectares of land nationwide: Agriculture Ministry
Addis Ababa, September 9, 2022 (FBC) – State Minister for Ministry of Agriculture, Professor Iyasu Elias, said that varieties of species of economically important multipurpose seedlings have been planted on 1.8 million hectares of land.
During his exclusive Fana Broadcasting Corporation, the Minister of State said, during the concluding rainy season, more than 34 million people have participated in the national Green Legacy Initiative.
Activities are underway to embed the green economy development culture in the community apart from campaign based endeavors.
Ethiopia has surpassed the plan it set to plant 6 billion trees this year by planting 7.2 seedlings of various species nationwide, he added.
Of the total seedlings planted in this rainy season, 48 percent are of forest and bamboo, and 52 percent include vegetables and fruits and fodder trees.
He also pointed out that out of the total areas covered trees 1.8 million hectares of land have been planted with multipurpose trees with huge economic significance.
