Mr. Demeke elected as first president of Global Black Center

Addis Ababa, February 24, 2024 (FBC) – The Global Black Center: History, Heritage, and Education Centre, which recently established its headquarters in Addis Ababa with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was inaugurated today in the presence of former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Demeke Mekonnen, at Addis Ababa University.

The conference aimed to establish and institute global governance, marked a pivotal moment in the Center’s journey.

Mr. Demeke Mekonnen delivered his welcoming remarks, underscoring the historical significance of the conference in launching the operationalization of the Global Black Center. He expressed gratitude for being chosen as the inaugural chairperson and commended the Center for its efforts.

Distinguished guests, including Dr. Julius Garvey, son of Marcus Garvey, and Professor Earl Taylor, were among the dignitaries in attendance.

Mr. Tesfaye Mecha, representing the founding members of GBC, provided insights into the establishment of the center and acknowledged the invaluable support and guidance received from Demeke Mekonnen in establishing the center in Addis Ababa.

A brief presentation was given on the overall establishment and operation of The Global Black Centre, headquartered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Founding members of the center unanimously appointed Former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Demeke Mekonnen as the President of GBC.
