MoWSA, UNICEF launch Child Protection Information Management System

Addis Ababa, May 31, 2024 (FBC) – Ethiopia’s Ministry of Women and Social Affairs (MoWSA) and the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) today launched the Child Protection Information Management System (CPIMS+/Primero).

It is indicated that the system will equip social workers with tools to collect critical data to address gender-based violence and facilitate family tracing and reunification.

In her remarks at the launching ceremony, Minister of Women and Social Affairs, Ergogie Tesfaye, recalled that there was a gap in the previous information management system in terms of protecting the safety of children.

She said that this information management system is unveiled in order to eliminate loopholes and provide appropriate services.

The Minister also emphasized that the information management system is of great importance to ensure the overall safety of all children, especially vulnerable children, and to provide a quick response.

“Information is power, and the right information will help social workers to promptly assist children in need of protection.”

For his part, UNICEF Ethiopia Representative, Aboubacar Kampo also stressed the importance of CPIMS+ to enable the Government and partners to design strong child protection services.
