MoWSA champions women’s empowerment in nation building, national dialogue
Addis Ababa, July 25, 2024 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Ministry of Women and Social Affairs (MoWSA) reaffirmed commitment to ensuring that women play a full and meaningful role in the nation-building process and the ongoing national dialogue.
To achieve this goal, the Coalition for Women’s Voice has been providing capacity-building training to thousands of women across various regional states and city administrations.
Established in March 2022, the Coalition for Women’s Voice represents dozens of civil society organizations, is working to advance women’s rights in Ethiopia. Recently, the coalition submitted its women’s agenda to the National Dialogue Commission.
Minister of Women and Social Affairs Ergogie Tesfaye (PhD) emphasized the need of addressing fundamental problems through the national dialogue, stating that it has reached a critical stage.
She highlighted the importance of including women in the national dialogue process, as they are often the primary victims of disputes.
The minister expressed confidence that the national dialogue will contribute significantly to creating national consensus and that the agendas discussed will have a direct impact on women’s lives in the present and future.
Commissioner of the National Consultation Commission, Prof. Mesfen Araya echoed this sentiment, stressing that women’s participation is essential for achieving success in the national dialogue. He noted that women’s agenda is the agenda of all Ethiopians, underscoring the importance of inclusive dialogue in shaping the country’s future.
