MoWE, USAID sign MoU to boost implementation of WASH projects in lowlands
Addis Ababa, November 13, 2023 (FBC) – Ministry of Water and Energy (MoWE) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with USAID Ethiopia to enhance the effective implementation of ‘CR WASH Activity’, water supply and sanitation program to be implemented in the lowland areas of the country.
While signing the MoU, Ambassador Asfaw Dingamo, State Minister for Water Supply and Sanitation, stated that the program will help communities in the lowland parts of the country to have access to safe and clean water.
The program is also instrumental in enhancing capacity to manage water supply schemes, he added.
Mohhamed Abdinur, Chief of Party for USAID CR-WASH Activity said the program is able to improve water and sanitation services, in particular, the lowland parts of Ethiopia.
He underscored that climate resilient WASH is an innovative program for areas that are prone to drought and other natural shocks. Abdinur added that improving non functionality and water resource mapping are critical components of the project.
It is to be recalled that Ervin Massinga, U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia, and Ambassador Asfaw Dingamo, the State Minister for Water Supply and Sanitation from the Ministry of Water and Energy, launched two new Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) projects worth $90 million on November 3, 2023. These projects are funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and are called Urban WASH and Climate Resilient WASH.
