MoTRI Minister, WTO Deputy DG discuss Ethiopia’s accession to WTO
Addis Ababa, July 27, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopian delegation led by Gebremeskel Chala, Minister of Trade and Regional Integration, discussed with Mr. ZHANG Xiangchen, Deputy Director-General of World Trade Organization (WTO), on the resumption of the negotiations of Ethiopia’s accession to the WTO on 26 July in Geneva, Switzerland.
Besides to the discussion with the Accession Division of WTO, the Ethiopian delegation also met with Ms. Rebecca Fisher-Lamb, the Chairperson of the Working Party on the Accession of Ethiopia, Ethiopian Permanent Mission in Geneva stated.
During the meetings, exchanges of views were made on the status of Ethiopia’s accession and future actions. The Ethiopian side expressed its commitment to closely work with the Chairperson of the Working Party to expedite the process.
The World Trade Organization (WTO) is the main global international organization dealing with the rules of trade between nations. At its heart are the WTO agreements, negotiated and signed by the bulk of the world’s trading nations and ratified by their parliaments. The goal is to ensure that trade flows as smoothly, predictably, and freely as possible.
