More than 34 African leaders, higher officials confirm participation in AU Summit
Addis Ababa, February 8, 2024 (FBC) – The Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Meles Alem, briefed the media on major events that took place last week and the ongoing preparations for the 37th African Union Summit, among others.
Ambassador Meles also touched upon the celebration of the 127th anniversary of Ethio-Djibouti diplomatic relations, as well as the Ethio-Russian Political Consultation and Business Forum that was held in Moscow, on 2nd and 5th of February 2024, respectively.
Ambassador Meles stated that 34 African leaders and higher officials have confirmed that they will participate at the forthcoming AU Summit.
In his presser, the Spokesperson explained that 24 Presidents, a King, 5 Vice Presidents, 2 Prime Ministers, and 2 Leaders represented by their Foreign Ministers will participate at the 37th African Union Summit.
The General Secretaries of the UN, IGAD, the Arab League, and heads of UN institutions and representatives of other organizations are also said to participate in the Summit.
Ambassador Meles also stated that Ethiopia’s participation in the BRICS meeting held in Moscow for the first time is the biggest diplomatic victory of the week.
The Ethiopian delegation at the BRICS meeting, held under the chairmanship of Russia, was led by National Bank Governor and BRICS Sherpa, Mamo Mihretu and State Minister of Foreign Affairs and Sous-Sherpa, Ambassador Mesganu Arga, he added.
