MoPD, WRI discuss ways of strengthening existing cooperation
August 28, 2023 (FBC) – The Minister of Planning and Development, Fitsum Asefa, held a discussion with representatives from the World Resources Institute (WRI) at her office today.
The two sides discussed ways to strengthen their cooperation on climate change, water and energy, and forest restoration.
During the discussion, the Minister of MoPD noted that Ethiopia is committed to taking action on climate change, and that WRI’s expertise and experience would be invaluable in helping the country achieve its goals.
The WRI representatives expressed their willingness to support Ethiopia’s efforts to address different challenges. They said that they were particularly interested in working with Ethiopia on forest restoration and green legacy initiatives, as forests play an important role in mitigating climate change.
The two sides also discussed the possibility of signing a revised Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that would formalize their cooperation.
Fitsum said she was confident that the MoU would be a valuable tool for strengthening cooperation between Ethiopia and WRI.
Moreover, the two sides also discussed the use of data and knowledge transfer in their work. They concurred that data and knowledge are essential tools for addressing climate change and other challenges.
They also agreed to work together to share data and knowledge, and to build capacity in Ethiopia to use these tools effectively.
Both sides expressed their commitment to working together to achieve common goals.
According to the Ministry of Planning and Development, the MoU is expected to be signed in the near future.
