MoLS working cohesively with partners to improve labour migration governance: State Minister
Addis Ababa, February 27, 2023 (FBC) – Ministry of Labour and Skills (MoLS) is working cohesively with sister ministries, partners and development agencies to improve labour migration governance and protection of migrant workers, said Assegid Getachew, State Minister at the Ministry of Labour and Skills.
In his opening remarks, during the IGAD Second Ministerial Conference on Labour, Employment, and Labour Migration, the State Minister indicated that the MoLS is working in cooperation with sister ministries, partners and development agencies to ameliorate labour migration governance and protection of migrant workers.
“While well-governed labour migration can benefit both countries of origin and destination, as well as migrant workers and their families, poor migration governance can pose significant challenges for countries of origin, transit, and destination, as well as risks to migrants”, he said.
“As a result, such serious challenges demand serious deliberation, contemplation, dialogue, cooperation, integration and measurable action nationally, regionally and globally.” Assegid added.
Recall that the Second IGAD (Intergovernmental Authority on Development) Ministerial Meeting kicked off earlier today in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The meeting brought ministers, experts from the ministries of labour and employment and ministries of foreign affairs of the IGAD member states and social partners together.
