MoE, EHRC agree to incorporate Human Rights theme in education curriculum
Addis Ababa, February 3, 2023 (FBC) – The FDRE Ministry of Education (MoE) and Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) signed a joint agreement to comprehend Human Rights contents in formal and informal education curriculum.
The agreement was signed by the Minister of Education, Prof. Birhanu Nega and the Chief Commissioner of EHRC, Daniel Bekele.
It is said that the primary purpose of the agreement is to fulfill the joint responsibility of both institutions and to instill human rights values into the society.
It was also indicated that both sides have reached an agreement to make their accord accessible to schools beyond formal and informal programs.
The Chief Commissioner said that the agreement offers a great opportunity to inculcate the human rights theme to the society.
The inclusion of Human Rights contents in the education system presents paramount importance to prevent the on-going violation of human rights in different parts of the country, he said.
The Minister of Education Prof. Birhanu, for his part, said that the agreement is an important milestone to bring lasting peace and to create citizens with better understanding of their rights and responsibilities.
