Modjo–Hawassa highway phase I to be completed after 5 months
Addis Ababa, March 4, 2020 (FBC) –The first phase of the Modjo– Hawassa highway project will be completed after five months.
The first phase, which consists of the construction of 56km from Modjo-Meki, is now 88% complete.
The construction of the 201-km Modjo–Hawassa highway project was launched in 2016 with more than 13billion birr.
It is being undertaken in four phase, namely Modjo-Meki, Meki-Zeway, Zeway-Arsi Negele, Arsi Negele-Hawassa.
The Modjo–Hawassa highway is part of the major Mombasa- Nairobi-Addis Ababa highway.
Once completed, the 4-lane dual carriageway road project will help improve Ethiopia’s transport links to other African countries and ports.
